Meagan Connolly is primarily a fine art and documentary photographer based out of Atlanta, Georgia. She received her B.F.A. from Savannah College of Art and Design in May 2015. Being raised in the Bible Belt of the United States has had a very large influence on her work. She seeks to document the cultural and psychological effects of western monotheistic religions through the use of large format film. Meagan was recently selected to showcase work in the “30 Under 30” exhibition at the Vermont Center for Photography, and has exhibited work both around the United States as well as internationally. Today we share Meagan’s series titled From Elsewhere.

From Elsewhere

Religion is the practice of tradition, culture, and restriction. The definition of lines is essential to almost all Western monotheistic belief systems. There is always a constant and unwavering barrier between what is considered holy and what is human. Even in physical representations of spirituality, there exists a division. This separation implies the existential inadequacy inherent to humans. We are taught that we do not belong. These photographs are a personal exploration of a holy dissension.
