Kristian Thacker is a photographer and artist from West Virginia. He studied photography at Shepherd University and continued his study while working in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, MD. He now shoots for commercial and editorial clients across the United States and is based out of Pittsburgh, PA. His personal work is rooted in the deep tradition of American documentary photography. The pictures serve as reminders, quietly capturing forgotten moments and overlooked people throughout the American landscape.
Places
Places is a brief glimpse of a larger ongoing series that examines the American landscape, its continued evolution in the 21st century, and how we experience that landscape. Now that cross country travel is simple and ordinary how does that shape our perception of the places we travel to and see? With prescribed lists of what is worth seeing thrown at us everyday we ignore all that falls between the start and end points on our maps. Racing from place to place for another experience, another photograph, and another spot checked off an unending list.
