Nava releases collections of limited edition photographs guest curated by experts in the visual arts. Nava sources and receives photographs from artists around the world and compiles an edited set. Guest curators select the artists to be included in each collection. All artists considered are relatively new to the print market. Founded earlier this year, a soft launch was guest curated by Elinor Carucci. Susan Bright is the guest curator for the upcoming collection. Nava exists to increase the number of people collecting fine art photographs. This is achieved by working exclusively with photographers at the first stage of selling prints, providing first grade production/logistics, and reassurance through transparent curation.
Below is a preview of artists who will be featured in the Susan Bright Collection.
Younès Klouche
Younès Klouche was born in Lausanne, Switzerland. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the prestigious ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL) in 2015. Through his work he looks for solutions to re-define the documentary genre thanks to a conceptual and reflexive approach. His projects are manifested mainly in the book form, but photographs have also been exhibited at Musée de l’Élysée, the Bienne Photoforum, Art Bärtschi Gallery or the Tate Modern. On the occasion of the 2016 Rencontres d’Arles- he released his first published photo book with Éditions du LIC. A visual essay on the evolution of documentary photography with images made in the north american continent. Orphée is inspired by the similarly titled film from 1950 by Jean Cocteau, itself a reinterpretation of the classic Greek myth of Orpheus.
Çağdaş Erdoğan
Çağdaş Erdoğan is a self-taught photographer born in a small town in Eastern Turkey in 1992. His photojournalism work shares the raw and charged energy found in his personal work. Violence, sex, war, and death are subjects in many of Erdoğan’s photographs. His incredible style and skill coupled with his willingness to explore the bounds of society have earned him world-wide acclaim. Erdoğan travels throughout Turkey and the Middle East for stories published by leading publications, such as The New York Times, Der Spiegel, The Times, and The Guardian. He was featured in the prestigious Ones To Watch issue by the British Journal of Photography in 2017. Akina Books published his first monograph, titled Control, in 2017. Jennifer Timmer Trail
Originally from Northern Michigan, Jennifer Timmer Trail spent over a decade in New York, and some time in Copenhagen and Victoria, BC, before recently settling in Portland, Oregon. Life circumstances have kept her far from the idyllic small town she still calls home, and this has played a crucial role in the development of her work. Her photographs explore the longings that exist within relationships, things we wish we could hold on to but can’t, and the nostalgia that accompanies the process of aging. She is most interested in exploring and pushing the boundaries of what a photograph can communicate on an emotional and psychological level. Jennifer received her MFA in Photography from Hartford Art School and her BA in Art History / Studio Art / Natural Science from Michigan State University. She is an instructor of photography, design, and publication production, and her work has been written about and exhibited internationally. This photograph is from her series cassiopeia a.
