Sean Manuel

Sean Manuel is a film photographer based in Charlotte, North Carolina by way of Palm Harbor, Florida. His art focuses on the Black experience, aiming to challenge notions of beauty concerning Black bodies by showcasing the diversity within Black culture. His work highlights aspects of life that relate to Blackness by incorporating the unique and rich culture surrounding it. Aspects that explore the ideas of community, love, and trauma within the Black community. You can also see influences from the stylized music of Rhythm and Blues artist in his Midnight Gospel photo series. The series explores the manipulations of light and color while drawing inspiration from these early artists. His ultimate goal is to give visibility to individuals and things that are often unexplored and forgotten.
